Fall is a great time to spruce up your home – the heat of summer is a memory and the anticipation of holiday gatherings is starting to build. Whatever your home improvement dream, the 13th annual Home Solutions Expo has clever new ideas to get you going. On behalf of the Roanoke Regional Home Builders Association (RRHBA), welcome to the show.

Once again at this year’s Expo you will find a wide variety of ideas and solutions for building, renovating and maintaining your home. At this convenient, one-stop shopping place, our exhibitors will answer your questions and spark ideas for keeping your home in tip-top shape. For the first time, you’ll be able to order exhibitors’ products and services right at the Expo. And as always, our solutions clinics will zero in on important areas of concern for homeowners (see p. HSE 4).

On Saturday, Sept. 20, we offer a special treat, courtesy of WFIR-AM 960 Radio and Williams Lighting Galleries: The nationally syndicated radio hosts The Carey Brothers will broadcast their show live from the Expo from 9 a.m. till 1 p.m. You can meet and greet them after the show, from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m at the Williams Lighting Galleries’ booth.

The fun doesn’t stop at the Expo, either. RRHBA is proud to present the 2008 Parade of Homes during the weekends of October 4-5 and 11-12, from 12 to 5 p.m. A free, self-guided public tour of more than 24 new single-family, unoccupied homes, the parade will showcase the finest housing options and home design in Roanoke and surrounding areas (visit RoanokeParadeOfHomes.com).

Once again this year, the RRHBA proudly offers our annual scholarship program. These students each received a $500 scholarship: Seth W. Carwile of Blacksburg, Benjamin L. Critz of Salem and Andrew M. Kellinger of Roanoke County. All three plan to attend Virginia Tech’s Building Construction program. Kellinger’s scholarship was made possible by the family of the late Wayne Morris of C. W. Morris Construction Co.

Finally, the Expo wouldn’t happen without the tireless efforts of our excellent Home Solutions Expo Committee members and RRHBA staff. A great big thank you to: Shawn Callahan of Metwood Building Solutions; Rick Gumpert of Closet Storage Organizers; Bobbie Hawkins of The Roanoker magazine/Leisure Publishing Company; Rick Keeley of Reico Kitchen and Bath; Dean Johnson of Below Deck Doctors Inc.; Brandi Dagley of Ferguson Bath, Kitchen and Lighting Gallery; and RRHBA Trade Shows & Office Operations Coordinator Carolyn MacLeod.

We believe that home ownership should be within the reach of all Americans and that the free enterprise system is essential to the high standard of living we enjoy. It is in that spirit that we bring the Expo to you each year. With your continued support, we look forward to bringing you many more successful Expos in the years to come.
